The solution to homelessness will not come from local government alone. There must be city, regional, state and national efforts that work in concert to improve the quality of life of our most vulnerable people. In particular, vast infusions of federal funding are critical to the adequate creation of affordable housing.
Recognizing this fact, Religious Witness with Homeless People created the Religious Leaders’ National Call for Action on Housing, a diverse coalition of hundreds of our nation’s most prominent religious leaders. At a press conference on the steps of the Capitol in Washington, DC, leaders of Religious Leaders’ National Call for Action on Housing, joined by our allies in Congress, delivered a compelling moral message to the House and Senate, urging that they take adequate and timely steps to address the national crisis of a lack of affordable housing. This press conference stressed the urgent need for the passage of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, pending in Congress.
